Dr. Joseph Mouallem is a board-certified psychiatrist and psychotherapist. He is specialized in evaluating and treating individuals with a wide range of issues, including depression and anxiety, ADHD and related difficulties, relationship and career concerns, grief and loss, and life transitions. He has a warm and open-minded approach to care that is challenging and collaborative, thoughtful and thorough.
Dr. Mouallem received his B.A. with multiple honors from Yale University, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Prior to becoming a physician, he had been a police misconduct investigator, environmental lawyer, and founding director of several non-profit, member-run health insurance companies.
After completing post-baccalaureate premedical studies at Columbia University, he received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, where he was inducted into the national Gold Humanism Honor Society. He completed his residency in psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Center.
He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell and an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist at its hospital. Dr. Mouallem has received advanced psychotherapy training at Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
